In the early 90's I studied art and design for 4 years at Leeds College of Art and Design. I successfully completed a BTEC National Diploma in 3D Design and a BTEC Higher National Diploma in Product Design. After graduating from College I continued developing my artistic and concept skills. I had a small craft business for several years designing and making products from old denim jeans including denim jeans mirrors, gift plaques, clocks and greeting cards. But my real passion has always been art and illustration. When I was working for UK Greetings Company as a Retail Merchandiser, it made me rethink my career and where I want to be now. All those fabulous cards I was displaying in retail stores really inspired me to think of illustrating and designing my own range of cards.
In 2023 I bought myself a pack of colourful alcohol based markers and a good quality acrylic paper pad... and my art portfolio began! I've developed a unique art style that I feel is my signature now, for which I'm extremely proud of :)
My art studio is based at home in Yeadon near Leeds and Bradford Airport. I love my walks around the Yorkshire countryside and Yeadon sailing lake, as well as the sound of the planes setting off and landing on the runway nearby. I'm always inspired on my daily trips out. Art and Walking is also a form of therapy to help me cope with my mental health.
My illustrations are full of bright colours just like the art paintings of Vincent Van Gogh. His beautiful art has always inspired me in my own work. Van Gogh is my favourite artist of all time. I have several of his art prints framed on my walls. Bright colours really help to lift my mood and keep me positive. A world without colour, for me, would be an dark place to be! My love of Art and design has always kept me driven and plodding on in life! It's who I am and always has been, ever since I was little girl.
'Art is me... I am Art '
Throughout my life I've struggled with anxiety and recently been diagnosed with Cervical Spondylosis of the neck and lower back pain. My health issues unfortunately meant i had to give up the job of working in retail because i can't lift heavy stock or stand for long periods at a time anymore. This made me even more determined to pursue my art and design dreams and ambitions!
I have also written and illustrated a little children's picture book called Kody the Cowboy, which I plan to self-publish very soon. The story is about a cartoon cow caricature who wants to be a real cowboy and one day his dream comes true!
